Get To Know Drew Tharp

by Gutwein Law

Have you met Drew Tharp yet? Drew is one of the newest addition to our real estate team. He brings years of experience, business acumen, and top-notch listening skills. In the Q&A below, you'll see why we think Drew is a perfect fit for our team and clients, alike.

Where are you from?

I grew up in – and recently moved back to – Zionsville, Indiana.

Where did you attend college (both undergrad and law school)?

I went to IU Bloomington for undergrad and IU McKinney for law school. Go Hoosiers.

What led you to life as an attorney?

I’ve always enjoyed writing as a creative way to persuade an audience or explain ideas. I spent several years after college in marketing and communications. I worked primarily as a writer and account executive at various marketing agencies around Indianapolis. Eventually, I began looking for a career change. I was always interested in the idea of becoming an attorney, and the more I considered it, the more I realized that many of the same skills I had developed in my marketing career were naturally transferable to legal work.

How do you think your previous career as a marketing account executive set you up for success as an attorney?

The work of an attorney is, in many ways, similar to that of an account executive. My job is to listen to clients, identify issues, develop efficient solutions, communicate clearly with various stakeholders, and steer projects to completion. I was fortunate to gain experience doing all of those things for years prior to becoming an attorney – just in a different context.

What attracted you to Gutwein Law?

I was – and still am – impressed by the firm’s emphasis on offering more than just legal advice. We don’t just explain the law to our clients; we become a trusted partner by understanding our clients’ businesses and applying the law in a way that makes sense for their needs.

What’s your favorite part about your role?

I like the unique and variable nature of each project. It’s a cliché, but no two days are the same. I really enjoy working with entrepreneurial clients, helping them realize their goals by providing the strategic thinking and creative problem solving required to close deals.
